Edward R. Miersch - CEO

Ed is a creative, self-directed, results oriented executive with proven success in growth oriented companies; strong communicator and developer of positive corporate culture. He has extensive public, private, not-for-profit, and start-up company experience with both geographically small and broad national enterprises. Miersch currently serves as CEO of MOTION PT Group, Inc., as a result of a merger with STAR Physical Therapy and Metro SportsMed based in New York City and funded by Pharos Capital Group, LLC, a private equity firm based in Dallas and Nashville. The sports medicine, physical therapy and occupational therapy organization is poised for rapid growth over the next 36 months with a goal to reach in excess of 100 locations by 2017. Prior to the merger of STAR and Metro SportsMed, Miersch served as Regional Vice President of Physiotherapy Associates with 570 locations in 34 states. Previously Miersch was owner and Chief Executive Officer of MX Physical Therapy. Miersch purchased MXPT in 2008 based in Wilmington, DE. At the time Miersch brought 30 years of leadership experience in the outpatient physical rehabilitation industry to MXPT. Following a successful TEAM effort with the clinical team at MXPT, the company was acquired by ATI based in Chicago in December of 2012. Also during Ed’s career, he served a 14-year tenure as President and Chief Operating Officer of Pat Croce’s Sports Physical Therapists, the pioneer of outpatient physical therapy and sports medicine. Through the 1993 acquisition of Sports Physical Therapists by the former NovaCare, Inc., Ed served as President of the East Region for the organization’s outpatient rehabilitation business and in January 2000, Ed was named President of NovaCare Rehabilitation shortly after its purchase by Select Medical Corporation. He has been a principal in other health care-related businesses including SUNRx, a 340B prescription drug program, and now MOTION PT Group, Inc., based in New York City.

Theresa R. Fox - COO

Theresa is a creative, process-driven, solutions-oriented executive with vast experience in marketing and finance. Prior to joining MOTION PT Group as COO, Theresa was the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Finance for Sports Therapy And Rehabilitation (STAR) Physical & Occupational Therapy in New York City. Since its inception in 1999, Theresa helped drive STAR to become one of the largest, privately held clinics in NYC by developing and implementing strong acquisition and retention marketing strategies, as well as overseeing all financial aspects of the business. She created numerous systems, maintained general practice oversight, and guided the business with her strong analytical skills. Theresa was previously a Vice President, Account Supervisor at BBDO Worldwide in their New York headquarters, where she spent close to a decade and traveled extensively. Her major clients included FedEx (domestic and international), Tambrands, CPC International, HBO, Visa, Unilever and Gillette. Theresa has volunteered in numerous senior positions, including serving three years on the Board of Directors of JDRF’s Fairfield County Chapter, receiving recognition from the national organization for her role as FCC Government Relations Advocacy Team Chair. She’s an active Board Member of the Sea Beach Association, Inc. in Stamford, CT where she served as President for twelve years. She was also President of the Parent Association of Our Lady Star of the Sea. Theresa holds a BA in Economics from Fairfield University. She also matriculated one semester at Richmond University in London, England.

Betty Jennings - CFO

Betty is a certified public accountant through the state of New Jersey and a graduate of New York University, where she received her BS in Accounting and Minor in Finance. She began her professional career at the public accounting firm of Grant Thornton in New York City until she was recruited by one of their clients, Kerr Steamship Company, which was the largest steamship agency in North America at the time. Starting as Controller, Betty was then elevated to Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for accounting, finance, banking, HR and IT for this $100 million organization and played a strategic role in the reorganization and eventual sale of the Company in which she held an equity interest. Subsequent roles included ATS Acquisition Company, Caring Hospice Services and Carepoint Healthcare, broadening her expertise in both shipping and healthcare. Prior to joining MOTION PT Group as CFO, Betty worked with start-up Malo Consulting encompassing both dental and physician practices with the overall responsibility of establishing accounting and financial reporting systems, measurement metrics, as well as branding and marketing oversight.

Michael B. Fox, PT, SCS, MTC - Chief Clinical Director

Mike is is a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist, a Certified Manual Therapist, a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness Instructor, a Hospital for Special Surgery Credentialed Advanced Hip Clinician and an International Rugby Board Certified First Aid In Rugby Educator. Michael co-founded STAR (Sports Therapy And Rehabilitation) Physical & Occupational Therapy in 1999. He is a Team Physical Therapist for the USA Eagles Men's National Rugby Team and Head Physical Therapist for the New York Athletic Club Rugby Team, an Adjunct Professor at New York University and a Clinical Supervisor at SUNY Stony Brook. Mike was recently published in James Andrews, MD's renowned medical textbook The Athlete's Shoulder and he frequently lectures and writes for various professional organizations such as the American Physical Therapy Association and NYU. Mike graduated Fairfield University with an Economics degree in 1986 and New York University with a Physical Therapy degree in 1991. He worked as a Senior Physical Therapist at Lenox Hill Hospital, and in 1993 became a member of their sports medicine team working at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma. In 1998 Mike was awarded his certification in Manual Therapy from the Institute of Physical Therapy, and in 1999 he was awarded certification as a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist from the American Physical Therapy Association.

Benjamin Gelfand, PT, DPT, SCS - Chief of Clinical Services

Ben is a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist and a Hospital for Special Surgery Credentialed Advanced Hip Clinician. Ben co-founded STAR (Sports Therapy And Rehabilitation) Physical & Occupational Therapy in 1999. He is an Adjunct Professor at New York University and a Clinical Supervisor at SUNY Stony Brook. Ben served as a member of the New York State Task Force on Life and the Law. He authored the self-help book, The Return to Glory Days, was recently published in James Andrews, MD's renowned medical textbook The Athlete's Shoulder, and frequently lectures on orthopedics and sports rehabilitation. Ben attended S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook and received his Physical Therapy degree from New York University in 1988. He began his career as a Staff and then Senior Physical Therapist at Lenox Hill Hospital, where in 1994 he became Chief Physical Therapist for the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma. In 1998 Ben was awarded certification as a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist from The American Physical Therapy Association. Ben received his Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy from Dominican College. Dr. Gelfand has been certified in Active Release Techniques (ART) and is actively pursuing recertification.

Derek Rapisarda, JD, MBA, CHC - VP Compliance/Deputy General Counsel

Derek joined MOTION PT Group in May of 2016 after working as a Corporate Compliance Director and Privacy Officer with Northwell Health, formerly the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Derek has also worked for the physician advisory company, Executive Health Resources, as a Regulatory Attorney and with the Medicare Part A Qualified Independent Contractor, MAXIMUS Federal Services, as an Appeals Officer. Derek earned his B.A. from Purdue University, his M.B.A. from Villanova University and his J.D. from the Villanova University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Pennsylvania.

Katherine Carter – VP Human Resources

Katherine has over 20 years of experience in Human Resources for various for-profit and non-profit industries. She previously held senior leadership positions with American Express Travel Related Services Co, Inc. where she served as Human Resources Leader for 11 years. Katherine implemented new recruitment strategies, provided organizational planning and consultation and talent management initiatives for numerous divisions. She worked with partners such as the National Academy Foundation to help create interest and launch careers in Travel and Tourism. Katherine worked for 7 years as Sr. Director of Human Resources for the YWCA, a national non-profit organization whose mission is to empower women and eliminate racism. The YWCA has over 26 locations including a 24 hour rape crisis center, before and after school care, summer camps, fitness and aquatic programs, and women’s programs. Katherine’s most recent position was VP of Human Resources with The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a national voluntary health organization, where she worked for over 5 years and implemented organization-wide strategies in the areas of compliance, culture, employee relations, and diversity and inclusion. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Binghamton University.
