Neurological Physical TherapyRestoring Movement and Independence

Neurologic conditions can affect how your body moves and responds to everyday activities. These conditions may impact strength, coordination, sensation, balance, or mobility, making daily tasks more challenging. Neurological physical therapy plays an important role in helping individuals improve function, maintain independence, and adapt to changes caused by neurological injury or disease.

At MOTION, our physical therapists work with patients who are living with neurologic conditions. Your therapist will take time to understand your symptoms, movement patterns, and personal goals, then create an individualized plan of care focused on improving mobility, safety, and quality of life.

Common Neurologic Conditions We Treat

While this is not an exhaustive list, some common neurologic conditions we treat at MOTION include:

  • Stroke and post-stroke mobility impairment
  • Parkinson’s disease (PD)
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Peripheral neuropathy (PN)

What to Expect in Your Neurological Disorders Treatment

Your physical therapist will complete a comprehensive movement assessment to evaluate strength, balance, coordination, posture, and functional mobility. Treatment may include:

  • Task-specific exercises to improve strength, coordination, and movement control
  • Balance and mobility training to support safe movement at home and in the community
  • Gait training to improve walking mechanics and functional independence
  • Strategies to manage fatigue and improve endurance for daily activities
  • Education for patients and caregivers on safe movement and home-based strategies

How Physical Therapy Supports Neurologic Recovery

Physical therapy focuses on helping your nervous system relearn movement through guided practice, repetition, and targeted exercises. Your therapist will monitor progress and adjust your program as you improve, emphasizing functional skills such as standing, walking, reaching, and transfers. Our goal is to help you move more confidently, participate in meaningful activities, and maintain as much independence as possible.

MOTION's neurological physical therapy specialists serve patients across Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, and New York.
