5 Tips for Healthy Living

Every August we celebrate National Wellness Month, but it’s important to take time for living healthy all year round. What are some tips for improving your health? We’ve got you covered:

  1. Stay hydrated. It’s important to drink enough water each day, especially when it’s hot outside, or you’re exercising. There are now apps and special water bottles designed to remind you to drink more, but you can start by bringing a reusable water bottle with you when you’re on the go.
  2. Eat more fruits and veggies. Instead of trying to diet and restrict yourself from certain foods, try to think of eating better as adding foods to your diet. Add blueberries to your breakfast, and chomp on some carrots for a midday snack. Instead of the food pyramid many of us remember, it’s now recommended that you simply add fruits and vegetables to each of your meals.
  3. Get enough sleep. Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep each night, but many of us aren’t getting this. To get better sleep, try to sleep at the same hours each day and put your phone down 30 minutes before bedtime.
  4. Meditate. Meditation has been shown to have numerous benefits on health. These days, it’s easy to get started with a meditation app or video. Just give yourself a few minutes and a quiet space, and get started.
  5. Try a new form of exercise. Most experts agree that the best exercise is the one you’ll stick with. Rather than stressing about finding the perfect workout, just start moving: go for a walk, have a dance party, or press play on a yoga video. The CDC recommends 150 minutes of exercise each week, and you can do a lot from home.
