Thomas Tilton PT, DPT, USAW, SFMA

Physical Therapist

Thomas Tilton, PT, DPT, USAW, SFMA, grew up in Islip, New York, and graduated from Islip High School. From there, he went on to attend Sacred Heart University, where he played football while earning his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science in 2011.

Thomas attended Sacred Heart University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, where he graduated in 2013 with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. While at Sacred Heart, Thomas was selected to perform his clinical affiliation with the San Francisco Giants. Throughout this clinical, he received extensive training in working with sports-related injuries with multiple Major League Baseball players under the instruction of San Francisco Giants’ head Physical Therapist, Tony Reale.

Among Thomas’ other clinical experience, he was selected to participate in a clinical at the renowned NYU Cardiac Rehab Center and St. Charles’ Hospital’s Orthopedic Rehab Floor.

As a therapist, Thomas emphasizes current/continued research and use of the latest evidence-based practice and sports science data in conjunction with manual therapy to help his patients achieve their goals.

Outside of Therapy Tom has participated actively as a team member in college sports and owner and operator of a Private sector Sports Performance Facility.

Within college sports, Thomas has presented to several “Power 5” schools and has served as a resource/consultant for speed development and hamstring injuries, including speaking at the International Universities Strength and Conditioning Associations’ Long Island Athletic Performance Clinic in 2020. Thomas also works helping to interpret and apply sports science (force plate and GPS data) to help aide in return-to-play decision making, with a special interest in ACL and hamstring injuries.

As a former private sector athletic performance coach, Thomas has had the privilege of working side by side with high school, college and professional level athletes in the application of testing data to design and implementing customized programs for athletes.

His clinical interests include the shoulder, knees and sports-related injuries including return-to-play protocols. Outside of physical therapy, Thomas coaches varsity football at Plainedge High School and serves as the high school’s strength and conditioning coach. Thomas also actively participates as a volunteer at Islip Little League. He currently holds certifications from USA Weightlifting and an SFMA Certification.
