Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that sit at the base of the pelvis. These muscles play an important role in bladder and bowel control and function, core stability, and supporting the pelvic organs. When the pelvic floor is not functioning properly, whether due to weakness, tightness, injury, or other factors, it can lead to a range of uncomfortable and often disruptive symptoms that affect everyday life.
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of care that focuses on evaluating and treating dysfunction in these muscles and surrounding structures. At MOTION, our pelvic floor physical therapy specialists provide compassionate, individualized care in a safe and private environment. We understand that pelvic floor concerns can feel sensitive or difficult to talk about, and we are committed to making sure every patient feels heard, respected, and comfortable throughout their treatment plan.
Our team includes physical therapists with advanced post-professional certification in pelvic health, including specialized training in the evaluation and treatment of complex colorectal and pelvic floor conditions. This certification required extensive coursework, clinical training, and rigorous competency testing, allowing MOTION to offer a higher level of care for patients with more complex needs.

What to Expect
Your first visit will begin with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, and personal goals. Your physical therapist will take time to explain every step of the evaluation process and will always prioritize your comfort and consent. A pelvic floor evaluation may include an internal assessment, though this is always discussed in advance and performed only with your full understanding and agreement. Treatment is highly individualized and may include:
- Internal and external manual therapy to address muscle tension, weakness, or scar tissue
- Pelvic floor strengthening or relaxation exercises tailored to your specific needs
- Core and hip strengthening to support pelvic stability
- Bladder and bowel habit education and retraining strategies
- Breathing and relaxation techniques
- Guidance on returning to exercise and daily activities
- Coordination with your OB-GYN, urogynecologist, or other healthcare providers as needed
